Jay's Love Letter to Herself
Being a social worker, the beautiful and insightful Jay has a unique perspective in her motivation for doing a shoot.
“Doing this boudoir session was an opportunity to actually think about my body and what it means to me. As a social worker who knows how much shame society inflicts on women, the shoot was amazing - like a love letter to my body- like apologizing and embracing it at the same time. The process helps you bring out the sexiness you didn’t know you had and tap into that inner Goddess.”
Dealing with social issues professionally, Jay said she usually didn’t think about her body the attention it deserves. Working with a lot of trauma victims, she says women tend to internalize the mixed message society sends them about their bodies.
“You’re no longer worthy once you’ve had three kids or beautiful because you have stretch marks. When you say that to yourself enough, sooner or later, you believe it — and women tend to buy into that. This was a beautiful opportunity to erase that stigma for myself. ‘'‘
She encouraged clients to look at themselves in the mirror after her shoot- and practice seeing themselves as beautiful beings, to silence that inner critic. On her album cover, she wrote: “It takes an overwhelming breakdown to reveal the Gift of Self.” — and she got this album for her birthday for “her damned self.”
Her grace and elegance during her shoot was amazing. Her advice to women who are considering a boudoir session to boost their self-love: “You have to be willing to explore , to dissect who you are. You’re not just a wife, not just a mom; you have feminine energy that needs to be expressed. Redefine the way you view and embrace that side of you.”
