Preparing for Your Boudoir Shoot

Tips for getting the most out of your Boudoir Shoot

Now that you’ve booked your boudoir session, what do you need to do? Most women are understandably nervous leading up to a boudoir shoot and that’s OK! At Lins Photo Studio, we’re here to help you with some great tips to get you organized and channel that nervous energy to prepare you for this fun and amazing experience.

This shoot will be a workout, so get ready to work your ass off!

I will be guiding you in poses that may feel unnatural to you, which can definitely feel like part yoga, part acrobatics, so get ready to work it! We will be dancing, arching, bending, swaying and holding poses. We specialize in posing you in ways that will accentuate your curves and coaching for emotions and expressions to make you look sultry and beautiful.

Finding the right wardrobe choices are important for your shoot. When in doubt, bring something you already LOVE yourself in and makes you feel great.

Here’s a few Do’s & Don’ts:

DO: Start shopping for wardrobe early!

  • Bring at least 3 different outfits for your shoot, and you’ll need time to try on looks and play with new styles to see what makes you feel most confident & sexy.

  • Pick clothing that suits your body type: In general, it’s best to wear something form-fitted, as loose, baggy items don’t typically photograph well. Choose muted, matte, primary or pastel colors as they flatter every skin tone and let YOU shine through in the photos. You can always come a bit early and see what is in the studio’s client closet and if you want something special, here’s some my favorite stores and lingerie brands:

  • Victoria’s Secret

  • Hustler of Hollywood

  • Frederick’s of Hollywood

  • Bare Necessities

  • Cosabella

  • Fleur du Mal

  • Torrid

Do: bring Accessories

  • Think about accessories: in boudoir shoots, garter belts and thigh-high stocking really up the sex appeal in the BEST way! Also, don’t forget to pack jewelry like earrings, necklaces, hair pieces or even men’s ties.

  • Bring sentimental items: If you are gifting your photos to your significant other, consider bringing a personal item of theirs we can work in-- like a meaningful piece of jewelry, work shirt or hat.

  • HEELS! The higher & skinnier the better; avoid unflattering, chunky heels. Think black or nude color shoes to make sure they highlight, not distract

do: Pre-shoot pampering

  • Remember to schedule your hair appointment for a few hours before your shoot, and, have your stylist add in a little extra hold product to really secure your style. Depending on your hair length and style, beach waves and more volume are popular hair style choices for boudoir.

  • A fresh mani/pedi are definitely in order for your shoot. Nails are often featured, and pinks, neutrals, french tips and more classic-looking nails look best.

DONT’s:

  • Don’t bring overworn shoes. The bottoms of your heels can easily be seen in a lot of poses, and overworn bottoms are very distracting, plan accordingly!

  • Don’t wear overly bright or neon colors, or outfits with busy patterns.

  • Don’t shop for babydoll lingerie or anything loose or with an empire-waist-- these styles are notorious for being unflattering in photos.

  • Don’t go tanning, spray or UV tanning before your shoot. The color saturation and tan lines can be very distracting.

  • Avoid any cosmetic surgery or botox-style fillers during the week leading up to the shoot.

The most important thing you can bring with you is the right attitude: come ready for a great time.

I hope these tips are helpful as you prep for your shoot!
